Celebratory firing by friend kills bridegroom

The police said the marriage procession was taken out from Kalandar colony on Tuesday and was on its way towards Faridabad.

New Delhi: A bridegroom was killed in Delhi when a bullet fired by his friend pierced him on Tuesday night.

The incident took place in Seemapuri late on Tuesday when bridegroom, Deepak Kumar  (21) was leading the celebrations and a bullet hit him on the back, deputy commissioner of police Nupur Prasad said.

The police said the marriage procession was taken out from Kalandar colony on Tuesday and was on its way towards Faridabad.

During the baarat, the bridegroom’s nephew fired from a gun to celebrate the occasion. One of the bullets involuntarily hit Dipak and he fell down from the horse.

He was rushed to GTB hospital with a gunshot wound in the head, and later succumbed to his injuries, a senior police officer said, adding the accused is absconding.

Deepak worked as as a helper on a bus at Anand Vihar inter state bus terminal. “He collapsed and was rushed to hospital where he was declared dead after midnight,” Nupur Prasad, deputy commissioner of Delhi police. According to the police, the person who allegedly fired is a distant relative of the bridegroom.
