Madrasa teacher rapes minor, held
The police are currently investigating if Alam raped the girl in the madrasa premises.
New Delhi: A 67-year-old teacher has been arrested for allegedly raping a nine-year-old girl inside a madrasa in outer Delhi’s Narela area. According to the police, the crime took place on February 25 (Sunday) and was reported to them on Tuesday. The girl is currently undergoing treatment at B.R. Ambedkar Hospital in Rohini.
The accused is an Arabic language teacher who is teaching at the madrasa for the past several years, the police added. A doctor said that although the girl was traumatised, her condition was stable.
The police arrested the accused, Zakir Alam, on Tuesday. A case against him has been registered under sections of the Protection of Children against Sexual Offences Act and the IPC.
The incident is reported to have happened on February 25 inside the madrasa located in Narela area’s JJ colony. The girl’s family live in a nearby block. The victim’s family alleged that Alam had threatened the girl with dire consequences if she disclosed anything to her family members.
The heinous crime came to light after the minor lost consciousness and was rushed to the hospital by her family. After the medical examinations, the doctor confirmed that the girl has been subjected to sexual abuse. Later, the girl narrated her ordeal to her mother.
The police are currently investigating if Alam raped the girl in the madrasa premises.
Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief Swati Maliwal termed the incident “sickening” and claimed that both system and society are responsible for such incidents. She also visited the victim on Wednesday morning.
