New Delhi: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)  government on Monday has announced the appointment of new Leaders of Opposition in the Municipal Corporations of Delhi (MCDs), which are ruled by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

According to AAP spokesperson Dilip Pandey, the party's Anil Lakra who won the municipal election from Mundka ward, Praveen Kumar Rajput from Sitapuri, and Kuldeep Kumar from Kalyanpuri will be the leaders of opposition of North, South and East civic bodies, respectively.

Mr Pandey said that after the civic body elections in April last year, the AAP winners "were promised that everybody will get a chance to take up this responsibility and enhance their leadership qualities."

"It is not that those holding the positions earlier did not do a good job. They did an excellent job. But we have taken this measure, going by our promise to keep the position rotating,”  he added. In power with a brute majority in the Delhi Assembly, the AAP fared poorly in MCD polls last year.
