E-rickshaw driver case: Delhi University student, juvenile arrested

According to a police officer, they scanned the admit cards of almost 300 students before zeroing in on the accused.

The e-rickshaw driver, Ravinder, was brutally beaten to death by a group of 12-15 youngsters in full public view almost seven hours after he asked two of them to use the public toilet instead of urinating in the open near the GTB Metro station.

New Delhi: The Delhi police on Wednesday arrested a 19-year-old DU student of Aurobindo College and apprehended a juvenile in connection with the killing of an e-rickshaw driver outside the GTB Nagar Metro station.

The e-rickshaw driver, Ravinder, was brutally beaten to death by a group of 12-15 youngsters in full public view almost seven hours after he asked two of them to use the public toilet instead of urinating in the open near the GTB Metro station.

Rajesh Khurana, joint commissioner of police (northern range), said the DU student, identified as Shekhar Kapasia, was arrested from his native home in Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh. His interrogation led to the apprehension of the 17-year-old boy from Delhi University’s North Cam-pus area. The teenager is preparing for Staff Selection Commission exams from a private institute in Mukherjee Nagar area and is a political science student of the School of Open Learning..

“We have identified five more persons who were involved in the case. Raids are being conducted by our teams to nab the absconding atta-ckers,” said Khurana, adding Shekhar and the teenager were the same youngsters with whom Ravinder had a verbal altercation over urination issue.

According to a police officer, they scanned the admit cards of almost 300 students before zeroing in on the accused.

The two accused had left for their hometown after appearing for their last exam. It was only when they saw on TV that they realised that they had killed Kumar, the police said.

They were planning to escape from Muzaffar-nagar, but before they could do so, they were nabbed.
