Cutting of braids reported in city, cops scan CCTV
The police has ruled out that the incidents have any link with similar ones in other states like Haryana and Rajasthan.
New Delhi: Three cases were registered in Southwest Delhi’s Chhawla area in which braids of some women were chopped off by unidentified persons, the police said on Monday.
The police said that they have procured CCTV footage in which three men could be seen roaming in the area.
The women, all in their fifties, live in Kangan village of Chhawla. All the women had gone to a cattle shed before the attackers struck.
The police has seized not just the hair sample but also all the scissors and other sharp equipment from these households.
The cops have not ruled out the possibility of a close family member or the purported victims having chopped the braids themselves.
What they have, however, ruled out prima facie is the incident having any link with similar ones in the other states like Haryana and Rajasthan.
DCP Surendra Kumar said that separate cases of molestation, assault and arms act have been registered in connection with the matter.
In each of the three cases, the snipped braids were left at the spot. They have sent them to a forensic lab for test. Police sources said that although CCTV cameras do not capture the spots, but cameras have captured the entry points of the localities where the two of the three victims live and no suspicious movement was observed whatsoever.
