New Delhi: East Delhi Municipal Corporation (EDMC)  mayor Neema Bhagat on Tuesday said that the muncipal corporation would take out march on
November 2 demanding Rs 9,278 crore from the Delhi government as per the recommendations of the Fourth Delhi Finance Commission.

Ms Bhagat said, this march is being given the name of ‘Run for Fund’ in which all councillors of EDMC would participate.” The EDMC is going through a financial crisis so much so that it not being able to make timely payment of salaries to its employees and pension to pensioners, she said.

Arrears have not been given to the corporation for many years and neither has it funds for carrying out development works. The corporation is appealing to the government to give its due right.

This demand is not politically motivated. Extending financial help to civic bodies is the responsibility of any state government,” she added. The EDMC standing committee chief P. Sharma said, the government’s attitude gives an impression that it has no interest in the development of East Delhi.”
