1,700 challaned for drunk driving on New Year day

There is a sharp rise in the number of drunk driving cases as compared to last year.

NEW DELHI: The Delhi traffic police fined more than 1,700 people for the drunk driving in the national capital on New Year’s eve  on Sunday. The police said that more than 90 per cent of the violators were youngsters. There is a sharp rise in the number of drunk driving cases as compared to last year. Around 889 were prosecuted for drunken driving on New Year’s eve in 2016. In 2015, 6,486 were prosecuted for committing various violations, including offences like drunk and dangerous driving, the police said.

“This is the total number of offenders caught before and after midnight,” Deependra Path-ak, special commissioner of police, told the media.
