Enhance presence of women in police, says Anil Baijal

New Delhi: Lieutenant-governor Anil Baijal on Thursday asked the Delhi Police to enhance the presence of women work force in all police stations across the national capital. Mr Baijal held a review meeting on the law and order situation in the city, which was attended by chief secretary Anshu Prakash, home secretary Manoj Parida, police commissioner Amulya Patnaik and other senior officers.

According to the L-G office, the main issues discussed at the meeting included having more women beat officers, imparting self-defence training to girls under ‘Sashakti’ and public facilitation officers scheme for police stations. The effectiveness of Parakram vans mandated for anti-terror and other operations warranting an armed response, cycle patrols, skill development programme ‘Yuva’, child-friendly rooms in police stations and community policing programme ‘Prahri’ were also discussed.

“The L-G has asked police to enhance presence of women work force in all police stations,” an official said.

A statement issued by the L-G office stated that Mr Baijal wanted to have a structured mechanism by police to consult the social welfare department in order to curb the menace of human trafficking and make all efforts to trace the missing children. “The L-G desired to integrate de-addiction clinics, skill development centres with the night shelters to meet the desired results,” it stated. It also stated that the L-G congratulated the entire Delhi Police on professional handling of security arrangements during the recently concluded Asean summit and Republic Day celebrations.
