Mason held for killing woman in South Delhi

The detective, identified as Saurabh Sahu, was instrumental in illegally procuring CDRs from his contacts in telecom companies, and forwarding them to the dozen-odd accused arrested by the crime branch in the CDR case.

New Delhi: In a robbery-cum-murder case of a senior citizen, the crisis response team of South Delhi police cracked the murder case of a 67-year-old woman who was found murdered at her residence on April 23. The police has arrested a mason in this connection.

Romil Baaniya, DCP South said that the crisis response team of South Delhi has solved the murder of one Usha Kumar. The police arrested accused Sunny Thakur, who was looking for civil work at Gulmohar Enclave. The accused’s  father took care of the civil works in DDA Flats, Gulmohar Enclave society since the past 32 years.

“In order to make money, Thakur, on April 23 noon found the main gate of the victim’s house open. Finding an opportunity, he entered the house at 12.35 pm and caught the victim unaware. First, he tried to smother and strangulate her with a rope. Thereafter, he attacked the victim with dumbbells and finally slit her throat with a kitchen knife and collected all that he could rob and fled,” added Mr. Baaniya.

The police rushed to the crime scene when the received a call in the evening. They thoroughly examined the crime scene where Ms Kumar’s body was found lying on the floor in a pool of blood with multiple injuries on the body’s throat and head.

Mr Baaniya added that all the almirahs and drawers in all rooms were opened and the articles lay scattered on the floor.

During the course of investigation, footage of closed circuit television cameras  of various entry and exit gates was scanned and many suspects in the case were interrogated.

During the interrogation, conduct of the accused seemed suspicious and his version was not corroborating with digital evidence. On sustained interrogation, he confessed his crime.
