New Delhi: Three Nigerians were found dead in a flat in Delhi’s Uttam Nagar area on Friday under mysterious conditions, the police said. The incident was reported from the Mohan Garden locality. The landlord noticed a foul smell emanating from the flat and informed the police, a senior officer said.
“Two bodies were found in one room and the third in another room. No external injury marks were found on them,” he said.
The deceased have been identified as Christopher (36), Greece Ben (33), and David. Two of them — Christopher and Greece — lived on different floors of the building. David lived somewhere else and would visit the duo often, the police said.
Christopher had come to India in March and Ben in April. Both of them had business visas, the police said.
The trio would meet frequently for food and liquor. Their bodies were found in a third floor flat that had been rented out to Ben. Christopher lived on the second floor of the house. A forensic team collected evidence from the flat where the bodies were found.
“It is suspected that the deaths occurred late last night. The reason is not yet known. No drugs were found from the flat but the pungent smell of some chemical was felt,” the officer said.
The police has informed the Nigerian embassy about the incident. The bodies were sent for autopsy to the Deen Dayal Upadhyay Hospital here. The families of the deceased were also informed. The officials added that the families would be able to take the bodies once the autopsy report came. They also assured the Nigerian embassy that if there is any foul play the accused will face severe action.
Another Nigerian, who had been with the victims before their death, is being questioned.
“Prima facie, it appears to be a case of drug overdose. However, there is no clarity on this at the moment,” the official said.
