Delhi: 17 cases of junior cops' harassment in 3 years
According to sources, a total number of 17 complaints of harassment of subordinate officers by senior officers of the Delhi police.
New Delhi: As many as 17 complaints of harassment of subordinate officers by senior officials of the Delhi police were registered in the last three years. According to sources, a total number of 17 complaints of harassment of subordinate officers by senior officers of the Delhi police during the last three years and the current year were received.
After receiving these complaints, the police conducted an initial enquiry. During the enquiry, out of these 17 complaints, allegations were not substantiated in 15 complaints.
In 2014, three complaints were received and none of them were sustained. In 2015, three complaints were received and all of them were un-sustained. In the year 2016, nine complaints were received and among them only one was substantiated and 8 were non-substantiated. Till June 30 this year two complaints were received in which one was non-substantiated. This year an enquiry has been conducted by the Delhi police against the alleged officer and subsequently the officer has been placed under suspension from May 11 this year.
In May this year, a police inspector named Kaushal Ganguly shot himself at the CR Park police station. The family of the deceased alleged that he was tortured by one of his senior officers, adding that that the senior inspector was behind the cause of death.
While in November last year 25 policewomen had accused their senior, an inspector-rank officer posted in the Provisioning and Logistics unit of the Delhi police, of sexual harassment at the workplace. The women also claim to have informed the Delhi Commission for Women.
In July last year, a woman personnel complained against the erring officer to the DCP concerned. The accused had allegedly commented on her clothes and called her to his office alone. He started harassing her openly after the DCP let him off with a warning.
