138 new cases of dengue reported

New Delhi: Around 138 cases of dengue were recorded in the last week, taking the total number of cases from the vector-borne disease this year to 481. In September alone, 374 cases have been reported, according to a muni-cipal report released on Monday.

While the total number of dengue cases this ye-ar till September 8 stood at 147, it rose to 243 by September 15, to 343 by September 22, and 481 by September 29. By Septe-mber 8, only 30 fresh cas-es of dengue were repor-ted in the month, according to the report released by the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC), which tabulates data on vector-borne diseases for the entire city.

Of the total dengue cases this season, 481 were reported in Septe-mber, 58 in August, 19 were reported in July, six in January, three in February, one in March, two in April, 10 in May, and eight in June.

Last year, 1,177 dengue cases were reported in Delhi by the third week of September. Meanwhi-le, 52 fresh cases of malaria were recorded from September 23-39 in the city, taking the total number of such cases this year to 308.
