New Delhi: The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has directed the Delhi government and the municipal corporations to ensure that the drains at a posh South-East Delhi locality are properly cleaned and made obstruction-free.

The green panel sought responses of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government, South Delhi Municipal Corporation and the Delhi Development Authority on the issue.

“We have heard the counsel appearing for the respondents. The counsel submitted that they would place the matter before a competent authority for issuing appropriate directions in relation to cleaning of drains in Maharani Bagh,” a bench headed by NGT chairperson justice Swatanter Kumar said.

“Therefore, we dispose of this application with direction to all the three respondents to ensure that the drains at Maharani Bagh are cleaned without any further delay,” the bench, also comprising justice Jawad Rahim, added.
