PWD to open three loops on the Barapullah elevated road to make the ride smooth for motorists heading towards South Delhi from Noida.

New Delhi: With the Public Works Department (PWD) opening three loops on the Barapullah elevated road, as part of the Phase-II extension, several choke points in South Delhi will be freed. Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal is set to inaugurate these loops of Barapullah flyover on Sunday.

According to the PWD, the loops will make the ride smooth for motorists heading towards South Delhi from Noida and going to Sarai Kale Khan. The loops were opened for public a few days back as part of the trial run, PWD minister Satyendar Jain said.

The most prominent of the three loops is the one which starts from Sidharth Nagar. Motorists coming from Ashram Chowk can avoid the Ring Road and can use the loop to go towards Aurbindo Marg. “Those going towards INA from DND flyover can now reduce the travel time by around 30 minutes,” an official said.

Residents of several south Delhi areas, including Mah-arani Bagh, Sidhartha Nag-ar, Friends Colony and Sar-ita Vihar will benefit due to the opening of these loops.

Motorists coming from Noida can head to south Delhi using the signal-free corridor. With the opening of the loops, the Ring Road stretch from Gurudwara Bala Sahib to Sarai Kale Khan will also be decongested.

The PWD has constructed another loop for buses so that they can directly reach the Sarai Kale Khan ISBT . With this, the Ring Road stretch near Sarai Kale Khan will be decluttered. But this loop will be made operational after it gets connected to the new terminus, which is under construction.

A small ramp near Jangpura will facilitate the traffic coming from INA or JLN Stadium and going towards CGO Complex, Lo-dhi Road and ITO. Traffic coming from INA will go directly to CGO Complex via Lala Lajpat Nagar Marg through this loop and Lodhi Road and Aurbindo Marg will be decongested because of this.

According to the PWD, the remaining part of flyover is scheduled to be completed by 2018.
