Delhi police begin fresh probe into death at Hauz Khas
The deceased, Deepak Tandon, allegedly hit himself with a beer bottle during a New Year party at a club.
New Delhi: The Delhi police will question friends and other staff members, including bouncers of the pub in South Delhi’s Hauz Khas Village, where a 30-year-old man from Ludhiana died under mysterious circumstances during the New Year celebrations on Monday.
The deceased, Deepak Tandon, allegedly hit himself with a beer bottle during a New Year party at a club. He was later taken to Safdarjung Hospital where he died due to excessive bleeding.
A senior police official said that they have not given clean cheat to any person in the case. A thorough probe is underway.
“We are waiting for the autopsy report to ascertain the cause of death. The deceased worked as a part-time bouncer in weddings in Ludhiana. Death by a single hit of a beer bottle seems mysterious for a person with heavy built,” said Chinmoy Biswal, additional deputy commissioner of police.
“There is no CCTV footage of the incident, but someone in the crowd, which had gathered after Deepak hit himself, had made a video. We are trying to reach as many people as possible who were in the party to ascertain the sequence of the incident,” he added.
On Monday, friends who accompanied Deepak in the club alleged that he was attacked and killed by the bouncers in the pub.
“It is unclear if he smashed the bottle on his head or someone else did it. During preliminary investigation, it was also found that few minutes prior to the incident, Deepak had a brawl with the club’s DJ and bouncers and he splashed beer on them,” said a senior police official.
“On Sunday, two of Deepak’s friends, who were with him in the pub, gave a written statement to the police that Deepak himself smashed the beer bottle on his head. But contradicting their statement, they also mentioned that they were in the washroom when all this happened,” said a police official.
