Assaulted child dies at hospital
It may be recalled that recently an eight-month-old rape victim shifted to AIIMS for better medical care.
NEW DELHI: In a suspected case of sexual assault, a six-year-old girl died on Friday after she was admitted to Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi with injuries to her private parts.
The child was in de-compensated septic shock with respiratory failure and multi-organ dysfunction. Doctors suspect the girl was sexually assaulted. The body has been sent for post-mortem.
Swati Jaihind, chairperson Delhi Commission for Women (DCW), strongly objected to the incident and tweeted, “Met doctors in Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. Six- year old’s medical reports reveal recto-vaginal fistula, which means tear in anal and vaginal region. Happens due to sexual assault. She appears to have died due to an infection from same. Police should immediately arrest perpetrator. Devast-ating!” However, deputy commissioner of Police (outer district) M.N. Tiwari said the girl died due to severe infection. So far, neither the family members nor medical reports have suggested any sexual assault, said Mr Tiwari, adding that postmortem report is awaited.
Similarly few days back, on January 28, an eight-month-old girl was brutally raped by her 28-year-old cousin in Delhi, leaving the whole city in a state of shock.
The accused used to live in the same building where the baby lived with her parents in west Delhi’s Subhash Nagar. The cousin confessed to raping the baby under the influence of alcohol.

Meanwhile, the Centre had on Thursday told the Supreme Court that the death penalty is not the answer for every child sex abuse case and that graded penalties for graded offences have been provided under the POCSO Act, 2012.
