L-G Anil Baijal approves salary hike for guest teachers
Post-Graduate teacher (PGT) would be getting Rs 34,000 per month instead of existing Rs 21,000.
New Delhi: In a holi bonanza to the thousands of guest teachers in the national capital, lieutenant-governor Anil Baijal has cleared the Delhi government’s proposal to increase their salaries, deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia said on Thursday.
He said notification on the salary hike will be issued in a day or two. Mr Sisodia, who also holds the education portfolio, said that the salary hike for the guest teachers will be around 70 to 80 per cent.
“A series of Cabinet meetings were held before it got the L-G’s nod. Delhi’s guest teachers are facing a lot of issues, low salaries is one of them. With the move, the teachers will be able to lead a dignified life,” he said.
Detailing the revised salary slabs, he said, the Post-Graduate teacher (PGT) would be getting Rs 34,000 per month instead of existing Rs 21,000. “Trained Graduate Teacher (TGT) will be getting Rs 33,000 instead of the existing Rs 18,000. Salaries of assistant teachers will be Rs 32,000, up from the existing Rs 16,000,” said the deputy chief minister. “Approximately, there will be a hike of 70 to 80 per cent for everyone. The move would benefit 17,000 teachers,” the minister added. Mr Sisodia also met a group of guest teachers who were waiting outside the Delhi Secretariat and announced the decision to them.
