Five arrested for killing two in cash van case

One of the accused was arrested following a shootout with the police on Wednesday morning.

The detective, identified as Saurabh Sahu, was instrumental in illegally procuring CDRs from his contacts in telecom companies, and forwarding them to the dozen-odd accused arrested by the crime branch in the CDR case.

New Delhi: Five men have been arrested for their alleged involvement in robbing a cash van of Rs 12 lakh and the killing of two custodians of the van in outer Delhi’s Narela on April 26. One of the accused was arrested following a shootout with the police on Wednesday morning.

One of the accused identified as Bharat Bhushan (30) was arrested following a shootout with the police on Wednesday. Police said four of his associates were arrested on Tuesday night.

Bhushan alias Toni, was allegedly involved in murdering the two custodians of cash of a cash van in Narela last week. “Bhushan was traveling in a Maruti Eeco van to Bawana at 5.30 am. The police signalled him to stop, but he opened fire at them.

In retaliation, the police also fired at him in which the accused  was injured a senior police officer said. The police recovered a pistol and four live cartridges from his possession.

He was admitted to a hospital where he is recuperating. His associates, Mahavir Singh(34), Deepak alias Mantar (32)  and Gurucharan (35) Vikas Bhardwaj alias Dharmender (24) were also arrested.  on Tuesday night from the same area.

Following their arrest police claimed to have solved over dozen of cases of robberies and murder. Police said Bhushan was running a gang and he is suspected to be the mastermind of all Narela robbery.

The robbery-cum-killing took place when the van had come to pick cash from a wine shop at DSIIDC (Delhi State Industrial and Infrastructure Development Corporation) industrial area, in Narela.

Cashier Rajnikant and guard Prem Kumar was shot at by three unidentified motorcycle-borne persons. The accused fired at the victims 18-20 times and then fled with the cash box containing Rs 12 lakh. The accused were wearing helmets to hide their faces.  Both the victims succumbed to injuries at Raja Harishchandra Hospital in Narela.
