ASI slaps Najafgarh BJP leader over call'
Speaking to this correspondent, Choudhary said that the incident took place on Thursday around 7 am.
New Delhi: Making a call to the police control room number 100 proved costly for Najafgarh block vice-president Ramesh Chaudhary as he was allegedly slapped by the assistant sub-inspector (ASI) over a scuffle which broke out between two groups. The incident took place in Najafgarh.
Speaking to this correspondent, Mr Choudhary said that the incident took place on Thursday around 7 am.
“We have a Chhat Puja community. There was a minor scuffle which had broken out between two groups over financial transactions. Soon, an argument ensued and we feared that the matter might slip out of hand. As a precautionary measure I called the police control room, following which a PCR van reached the spot.”
“By the time the PCR van came, the matter was brought under control. Soon, I received a call from ASI Sunil Kumar.
“He asked me where I was and demanded that I report to him. After another call, ASI Sunil Kumar approached me. He got down from the vehicle and without any provocation, slapped me.”
The ASI allegedly continued to reprimand Mr Choudhary as to why he had called control room when nothing had gone wrong. According to him, despite explaining the matter, Mr Kumar continued to misbehave with him. Later in the day, Mr Choudhary approached the police station and met the station house officer, who in turn had issued a show cause notice to the ASI.
“Police is here to safeguard people and not to brazenly attack or slap them. I had made a call suspecting clash. Instead of pacifying the matter, the ASI misbehaved with me and assaulted me. I will be meeting the area deputy commissioner of police on Saturday in this connect,” added Mr Choudhary.
On the other hand, the ASI in question said that Mr Choudhary was wrong in calling the control room as there was no clash between the groups. He has also submitted an apology letter in this regard. However, Mr Kumar’s clarification later was refuted by Mr Choudhary.
