New Delhi: The Delhi Pradesh Congress has fast-tracked the process to elect the new district and block presidents in the national capital. A party source said that party vice-president Rahul Gandhi was keen to get district and block presidents elected at the earliest.

“We are backing Rahulji for early elections for the district and block presidents,” a source said. The Delhi Congress will elect 14 district presidents, 280 block presidents and around 280 delegates of the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC).

Speaking to this newspaper, Chartar Singh, a senior Congress leader, said that they have prepared a list of would-be block and district president. Daily meetings were being held in this connection to prepare the name list of new district and block presidents.

“This is our elections process. The names suggested for district president and block presidents have been chosen after getting consent of senior Congress leaders.
We discussed various names for each post and after agreeing on one name, prepared the list. Delhi Pradesh chief Ajay Maken will now check this list. It will then be sent to the All-India Congress Committee (AICC) for the final approval,” said Mr Singh.

He added that after getting the final approval from the AICC, the DPCC will release the list of new names of block and district presidents. Mr Singh said that while local persons are being chosen for the post of district and block presidents, former MPs, Cabinet ministers will be made PCC delegates.
