Civic body elects achievers as Swachchh ambassadors

New Delhi: In a bid to transform New Delhi area into clean, green and liveable capital, a city at par with global standards, Rio Paralympics medalist and Arjun awardees Deepa Malik and first female amputee to climb Mt. Everest Arunima Sinha have been appointed as brand ambassadors for Swachchh New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).
The declaration to this effect has been made by the NDMC at a function held at Central Park, Connaught Place, on Tuesday. The function was presided over by Lok Sabha member from New Delhi Meenakashi Lekhi.
Speaking after administered the pledge of cleanliness to the audience, which included hundreds of students, a large number of RWAs, market associations, visitors besides council officers and officials, Ms Malik said that if a special abled person like herself can acclaimed international fame by wining international awards, why not the citizens of this area achieve the target to makeover the city a Swachchh NDMC.
Exhorting the students and people at large, Ms Malik added, “Now it has become our joint responsibility to make New Delhi area a smart city in reality by extending the smart and modern civic facilities and basic amenities to the New Delhi residents. We would undertake sustained sanitation drive in different areas to sensitise the people to make swachhta a routine and regular exercise.”

Calling upon the audience Ms Sinha said that you have just to take one step towards the swachhta, the public will follow you to achieve the target to make Swachchh New Delhi. Ms Sinha assured that she herself along with Ms Malik are committed and not to leave any stone unturned to make the New Delhi a clean and beautiful city.
