New Delhi: Large number of Delhi University students gheroed the vice-chancellor’s office on Monday against Professor Ramesh Chandra and demanded his resignation in an alleged sexual harassment and molestation case and misconduct with a teacher and post graduation students.
The students and a female fellow professor of the Delhi University (DU) have levelled cases of sexual assault and misconduct against Prof. Chandra, who is currently the head of the Chemistry department. Protesters later met with the Internal Complaints Committee (ICC) and the vice-chancellor (VC) and handed over their demands related to him.
In her complaint, the teacher had complained of being humiliated by Prof. Chandra in front of six male faculty members during an interview for an ad-hoc position in the department on November 6, 2017, where she had been teaching for over six years. Moreover, on March 28, students wrote to the VC demanding expulsion of Ramesh Chandra from the post of head of department (HOD).
Meanwhile, the ICC of DU has already started hearing the deposition of witnesses in the two separate complaints of sexual harassment filed against Prof. Chandra by the ad-hoc teacher and a postgraduate student.
While protesting, students have alleged that no action has been taken so far despite several complaints being lodged against the professor due to his intimacy with the university administration. University students have also mailed to the university administration citing the rules of DU and UGC
