New Delhi: A doctor and his wife were allegedly assaulted and robbed of their valuables in broad daylight in Anand Vihar. The armed gang barged inside the clinic of the doctor and walked out freely brandishing weapons. The locals, who had gathered at the spot, remained mute spectators.

According to the police, the victim, identified as Piyush Jain, is a resident of Rishabh Vihar in Annad Vihar area. He was seeing patients at his house-turned clinic when the incident happened. The police said that the gang came disguised as patients. One of the gang members, along with a juvenile, went inside the clinic on the pretext of meeting the doctor. Dr Jain’s physiotherapy clinic is on the ground floor while his family lives on the first floor.

The gang first robbed Rs 35,000 from his clinic at knife point. They then took him to the first floor, allegedly made the couple hostages and robbed the house before fleeing the spot. What came as a shock was that even though a crowd gathered at the spot hearing the commotion, none dared to intervene or inform the police. The assailants, in a daring act, walked out of the house and fled the spot. The area jurisdictional police has registered a case and is probing in this connection.
