New Delhi: In a bid to extend the AAP government’s subsidy on electricity to tenants, Delhi power minister Satyendar Jain on Tuesday directed the power distribution companies to explore the options of installing prepaid metres.

He also told the officials of the power department to simplify the documentation process so that the tenants residing in different parts of the city can avail the benefit of the Delhi government’s ongoing power subsidy.

Mr Jain said that perpaid metres will be beneficial for both the landlords and tenants, and will help all concerned parties in easy billing. “The minister has asked the department and discoms to prepare a feasibility report on the above options and also an implementation road-map,” an official statement said.

In the meeting, various options were discussed on how this facility will be extended to the tenants, who had complained to the CM that they have been deprived of this benefit, which has been available to the domestic consumers using upto 400 units of electricity every month since February 2015.
