New Delhi: Tension prevailed in Outer Delhi’s Ranholla area on Thursday evening after a police team allegedly forcibly stopped a family from cremating their relative. The police took the action after it received a call about an attack on a man.

The police was misguided by the caller, who had allegedly informed it that a man was attacked and was critically injured.

He also claimed that the family was attempting to burn the victim alive, said the police.

High drama prevailed when a police team allegedly stopped the funeral procession and demanded that the family hand over the body for conducting post-mortem.

Upon receiving the tip-off, a team immediately rushed to the spot and stopped the family of the deceased, identified as 32-year-old Jitendra.

According to the family, truck driver Jitendra died a natural death. His relatives pleaded with the police not to take the body away in such an abrupt manner. However, the police team didn’t listen and forcibly took the body, which led to scuffle between the bereaved family members and the police team.

However, the tables turned when the police realised that they were misguided by the caller.

According to Babu Ram, a relative of the deceased, the cops not only misbehaved with the family, they also manhandled the grieving women in the house. He further charged that the situation turned ugly when the cops continued to misbehave despite the pleas of the family members who were trying to explain the truth to them.

Meanwhile, the irate family members stood up in arms against the police and only after intervention and assurance given by senior police officers the situation could be brought to normal.
