Sprinkle water to fight air pollution, says Anil Baijal

New Delhi: In a bid to combat the rising air pollution in the capital, lieutenant governor (L-G) Anil Baijal on Friday emphasised on water sprinkling along with mechanical sweeping of roads to control dust. He directed the authorities to penalise the construction agencies for the violation of dust control norms. The L-G also issued directions to expedite the greening and plantation at the central verges in the city.  

The L-G was informed that to control dust at the construction sites, the government has launched special drive to improve the air quality. “The L-G emphasised on water sprinkling with mechanical sweeping. He also directed the concerned agencies to penalise all construction agencies in case of any violation of dust control norms,” an official statement said. The L-G directed to execute the work expeditiously, particularly on major stretches. “On the issue of open air burning, it was said the government has undertaken special drive of inspections to prevent air pollution due to burning of leaves and garbage in open areas.
