New Delhi: The JNU administration has once again issued showcause notices to some of the student leaders, including former JNUSU president Ashutosh Kumar, citing complaints received against them over a year ago from residents regarding protest demonstrations. However, expressing anger, the students burnt the notices outside vice-chancellor M. Jagadesh Kumar’s office.

“A complaint dated August 25, 2015, against you has been received in chief proctor’s office. In the said complaint, it has been alleged that you were involved in shouting slogans in the library on August 11, 2015, at 1.15pm,” the notice sent to Ashutosh read.

“You are directed to appear before the proctor on December 7, 2016, at 3 pm to explain your position in this regard. If you fail to appear, it will be presumed that you have nothing to say in your defence and that you agree with the complaint,” it added.

Former general-secretary Rama Naga also received a notice on November 29 asking him to appear before the proctor on December 5 to explain his position on a complaint lodged against him November 6, 2015. The same notice was also issued to JNUSU vice-president Amal PP and student leader Dawa Sherpa, along with him. “In the said complaint, it has been alleged that you were involved in organising and participating in the screening of documentary film Caste on the Menu Card without prior permission of JNU administration on November 1, 2015,” the notice said.

Former JNUSU vice-president Sheila Rashid Shora has been served a notice for participating in a protest demanding bonuses for security guards.

On November 28, the registrar even wrote to JNUSU president Mohit Kumar Pandey repeating what he had said in an earlier letter requesting JNUSU not to hold any kind of activities near the administrative block. However, Mr Pandey wrote back: “Protest at the administration block has been a tradition of this university. We have never seen such a suppression of dissenting voice.”
