New Delhi: The Delhi high court imposed a cost of Rs 25,000 on a JNU assistant professor for delaying his response to a plea challenging his appointment for alleged plagiarism.

The court granted G.M. Khan a last chance to file his response along with the cost. A two-judge bench of acting chief justice Gita Mittal and justice C. Hari Shankar said Mr Khan has not filed his affidavit in past several dates.

Earlier a last chance was given to him, which had no impact on him. “The int-ent is obvious as the plea challenges appointment of respondent 4,” the bench said, adding “one last chance is given to him to file the reply by paying of a cost of Rs 25,000.” The court said in case, he doesn’t file the reply and the cost, his defence will be closed and listed the matter for hearing on May 2
