Duta hits out at V-C over varsity mess

The ongoing tussle between the VC and Delhi government is creating financial crunch, leading to the non-payment of salaries of DU colleges.

Delhi University's admission committee is yet to decide on the agency that will conduct the entrance exams for admission to various courses in the varsity, leading to a delay in the start of the process.

New Delhi: Hitting out at the vice chancellor (VC) of Delhi University, Delhi University Teacher’s Association (Duta) alleged that the VC’s inept behaviour is the sole reason behind the major disputes in the university and because of this ultimately teachers and students are facing a hard time. The ongoing tussle between the VC and Delhi government is creating financial crunch, leading to the non-payment of salaries of DU colleges.

The joint secretary of DUTA, Professor Alok Ranjan Pandey, said: “We are suffering due to the ongoing tussle between the Delhi government and VC Yogesh K. Tyagi, as the teaching staffs of 12 colleges are not getting salary from the past few months. These 12 colleges are also facing teaching and non-teaching staff crunch of over 2,700. Duta is trying hard to solve this salary issue. We have a tight lipped VC and incompetence has turned DUTA into a dharna ground and hunger strike. Shockingly, the VC called DUTA ‘padhe-likhe chowkidar,’ which means literate gatekeeper,” he added. “We recently visited deputy CM and education minister Manish Sisodia, who told us that the 12 colleges that are facing salary crunch have any governing body to which the Delhi government could transfer the fund, however the VC remained silent on the issue.”

Mr Pandey added, “About 5,000 ad-hoc teachers are in dilemma about their future and it has become a mental, physical, and financial torture for those who have been working from the past 20-25 years but still not getting promoted.
