Special drive to ensure minimum wages lauched

New Delhi: In order to ensure payment to all the workers from the rates of increased wage, the AAP government’s Labour department will launch a 10-day special “Operation Minimum  Wages” drive from December 10.

Under this plan, the government will form the enforcement teams in all the districts of the labour department, which will consist of  assistant labour commissioner, labour officer, inspection officer, company inspector and labour inspector. These teams will conduct inspections of various laboratories, companies, factories, workshops and industrial setups.

City labour minister  Gopal Rai said that the increase in the minimum wage rates by the order of Supreme Court on October 31 has been widely publicised through the newspapers to make aware the employers, the owners of the firms and factories and the workers.

The minimum monthly rates applicable from November 1 for unskilled workers will be Rs 14,000, for semi-skilled worker Rs 15, 400 and for skilled Rs 16,962 per month.

Mr Rai informed that under this special awareness campaign, all district joint commissioners and deputy commissioners have been asked to hold meetings with the  employer organisations of their districts to implement the increased rates of minimum wages to the skilled, semi-skilled, un-skilled labourers.

He said that the violations or noncompliance of implementation of increased minimum wages, by the Delhi government will attract severe and strict action as per Minimum Wages Act, 2017.

The city labour minister  Mr Rai said that the workers who are not getting minimum wages can file their complaints on the “Employee Helpline 155214”, which will be looked into by the Labour department for  necessary action.
