New Delhi: In an attempt to speed up the formation of party organisation at ground level before the scheduled visit of BJP national president Amit Shah, Delhi BJP assigned a district to all the seven Lok Sabha members from the city and senior functionaries to complete the task.

BJP MPs and senior party leaders will oversee functioning and formation of teams at different levels.

Mr Shah is likely to interact with BJP city unit on July 25. During his visit last month to Delhi BJP, Mr Shah was miffed with the state of affairs in the unit and directed them to complete the formation of organisation structure at ground level before his next visit in July. The city unit  has set a deadline of July 10 for the same.

Delhi BJP chief and MP Manoj Tiwari has been assigned the party’s North East district. MPs Ramesh Bidhuri has been given the charge of South Delhi, Dr Udit Raj will oversee Outer district. Similarly MPs Parvesh Verma, Dr Harsh Vardhan, Meenakshi Lekhi and Maheish Girri have been made responsible for Najafgarh, Keshavpuram, New Delhi and Shahdara respectively.

Former Delhi BJP chief Satish Upadhyay will oversee Mayur Vihar district and West Delhi district has been assigned to senior party leader Pawan Sharma. Mehrauli, Northwest and Chandni Chowk districts have been assigned to state general secretaries Kuljeet Chahal, Rajesh Bhatia and Ravinder Gupta. Leader of opposition in Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta and state co-in-charge Tarun Chug have been asked to oversee Karol Bagh and Navin Shahdara district.

A Delhi BJP insider said that senior party leaders including, Lok Sabha members, are assigned one district each to complete the work of formation of teams at block level and appoint workers at the booth level as directed by Mr Shah during his visit last year.

During his short ‘pravas’ with Delhi BJP on June 21, Mr Shah has pulled up the state leadership and cautioned them to put everything in order at the earliest. Referring to his July 14, 2017 visit of Delhi BJP, Mr Shah reportedly said that what purpose would his visit serve, if the state unit wasn’t ready to work as per his direction.

He warned the Delhi BJP to finish the work assigned last year in a week, adding he will visit the state unit soon and review the progress. Sources said Mr Shah will visit Delhi BJP on July 25 and ask for the progress report. and likely to ask for the progress report. “To avoid any goof ups and non-compliance, these senior leaders are assigned one district,” they added.

It is also learnt that few leaders are not happy with the district assigned to them as lobbied for another one. Mr Upadhyay has already hit the ground and met with office bearers of Mayur Vihar district and asked for work or programme done in last one year on the direction of Central leadership. “Mr Upadhyay was unhappy with the functioning of Mayur Vihar district as they failed to list programme done on the direction of central leadership. Mr Upadhyay had pulled up district office bearers including president for their lackadaisical attitude and gave strict warning that non-serious attitude will not be tolerated,” said a senior party leader.
