Delhi cops identify robber from FB profile pic, arrest him
The accused was identified as Raju Sonkar, a resident of Gonda, UP.
New Delhi: Recognising him from his profile picture on Face-book, the Delhi police laid a trap at ISBT Kashmere Gate and arrested a 27-year-old criminal. They were alerted by the Mumbai police after the accused fled to Delhi after robbing an elderly lady in Mumbai.
As per the police, the accused was identified as Raju Sonkar, a resident of Gonda, Uttar Pradesh. He was arrested after the police verified the passenger’s list and learnt about him flying from Mumbai to New Delhi on September 1.
The police recovered Rs 7.52 lakh in cash and gold jewellery (seven bangles, one ring, two tops, two chains with pendant and one other pendant) from his possession. According to the information shared by the Mumbai police with the Delhi cops, Mr Sonkar had committed a robbery in Khar at the house of an elderly couple.
Mr Sonkar hatched a plan along with his four associates and his cousin Shivnath who has been working for two years as a cook in the elderly couple’s home using a fake name. On detailed interrogation of the accused, Mr Sonkar disclosed that he along with Hasim, Shivnath, Kallu and Santosh committed the robbery. A case was registered in this regard with Khar police station on August 31.
The police also said that while committing the robbery they selected to barge into the elderly couple’s home when the old day was alone at home.
The robbers tied up the elderly woman and committed the robbery in which, as per information available, Rs 25 lakh in cash and jewellery valued between '7 lakh and '8 lakh was robbed and escaped from the spot.
The criminal flew from Mumbai by flight on September 1 and stayed at one of his relative’s place at Daryaganj, New Delhi. Mr Sonkar, the police said, was always fond of good clothes and wanted to lead a lavish lifestyle. He was also very fond of watching film shooting in Mumbai and wanted to live a lavish lifestyle.
