New Delhi: Harminder Singh Mintoo, the Nabha jailbreak accused and alleged KLF terrorist, had planned to go to Germany via Thailand from Nepal on the basis of a fake Pakistani passport but before he could reach Nepal, the Special Cell of the Delhi police caught him.

An ISI agent who was in touch with Mintoo had arranged a Pakistani passport for Mintoo, bearing his own photo with a Karachi address on it.

“Mintoo had to obtain the said passport in Nepal. The passport bore a departure stamp of Pakistani immigration. An ISI agent had arranged it. In Nepal, Mintoo’s associate would have to arrange for the arrival stamp of Nepal immigration to show that he was a Pakistani national. From there, he had planned to catch a flight to Thailand and then for Germany,” a police source revealed. On Monday, Mintoo was produced before a Delhi court after the expiry of his police remand.

The Special Cell official said that Mintoo was required for further interrogation as they had to interrogate him about his Pakistani link. The prosecution move was opposed by Paramjeet Singh who was representing Mintoo. He said that the police was given sufficient time to probe into the matter and interrogate him. But the court rejected his contention and extended his police remand.

The police also moved a plea before the court seeking permission to handcuff the accused, as there were possibilities of his fleeing. The court accepted the plea.

Mintoo has told the police during interrogation that Gurpreet Singh alias Sekhi had helped them flee from Nabha jail.
