New Delhi: Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari has sought ‘Z’ category security cover citing his political tours across the country for election campaign and expansion of organisation as directed by the party leadership. Mr Tiwari also mentioned the recent alleged ‘misbehaviour’ with him at Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence

The Delhi BJP leaders, including Mr Tiwari, had allegedly been misbehaved with and attacked by AAP MLAs and anti social elements at Mr Kejriwal’s residence, on January 30, where they had gone to discuss the ongoing sealing drive carried out on the directions of the Supreme Court appointed monitoring committee. An FIR was lodged against four AAP MLAs and others in this regard.

In his letter to Union home minister Rajnath Singh, Mr Tiwari said that he receives ‘Y’ category security cover, which has proved “inadequate” in wake of the recent incidents.

“The two incidents — West Bengal government’s refusal to provide security during campaigning in the state and the attack at Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal’s residence — are enough to prove that the existing security arrangements are not enough,” Mr Tiwari wrote in his letter to Mr Singh. The Z-category security entails 20-25 commandos covering a protectee. The cover extends to the residence of the protectee, who is also provided a pilot and an escort vehicle.
