Menstruation a natural phenomenon'
NDMC chairman Naresh Kumar said it was a matter of privilege that the Miss World had wished to visit them.
New Delhi: While interacting with the girl students of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) run schools on the theme of “menstrual hygiene management curriculum,” Miss World (2017) Manushi Chhillar called upon the students saying that three components — education, equality, and empowerment — play an important and pivotal role in moving the country forward in every aspect. Manushi was interacting with over 300 girl students and female teachers of the NDMC schools.
The event was organised by NDMC in association with the Miss World Organisation under the ‘beauty with purpose’ mission led by chairperson Julia Morley. “Menstruation is a natural phenomenon. It is neither dirty nor a taboo. Neither does it carry any shame — be it on a personal, familial, or societal level. The use of sanitary pads and the dos and don’ts should be discussed with openness so as to make a hygienic and healthy life for the women,” said Manushi.
Advocating the use of eco-friendly sanitary napkins, she said that one should also consider using jute sanitary pads as these are made from natural fibres that are easily available in India and other parts.
NDMC chairman Naresh Kumar said it was a matter of privilege that the Miss World had wished to visit them.
Underlining the importance of change in the mindset of the society in respect to girl child, Miss World said that it is the need of the hour to spread happiness while working with a purpose, intension with truth, faith in destiny, and no hidden purpose with a purpose of life.
Exhorting the girl students, Manushi said that this message of menstrual hygiene should be taken around so as to spread it across the society.
NDMC chairman Naresh Kumar said it was a matter of privilege that the Miss World team had wished to visit them under the “beauty with purpose” mission.
“New Delhi is the heart of the country and the seat of Indian government. Any message spread from here would definitely reach every corner of the country and the overseas as well. This innovation would go a long way in dispelling the myth and breaking the taboo about female hygiene and health,” Mr Kumar added.
