New Delhi: The Delhi government on Thursday said that 1.5 lakh CCTV cameras will be installed across the national capital by January next year. The announcement was made by Delhi’s PWD minister Satyendar Jain.

As per the plan, around 2,000 cameras will be installed in all 70 Assembly constituencies each at a cost of around Rs 250 crore in the first phase.

“In the first phase, we have decided to install 2,000 CCTV cameras in each Assembly constituency of Delhi. The PWD will execute the work and float global tender in this connection in October this year after which the installation works will be initiated,” Mr Jain said.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader said that the legislators have been asked to provide the details regarding locations in their constituencies for the CCTV cameras by August 15.

“These cameras will be installed in residential as well as market areas in consultation with the RWAs and market association,” the minister added.
