Two men on bike snatch purse from DU professor
The incident was reported on Wednesday when the victim was in a cycle rickshaw and going towards Vishwa Vidyalaya Metro station with her colleague.
New Delhi: An assistant professor at the Law Faculty in Delhi University (DU) was dra-gged on the road as she tried to counter a snatching attempt by two bike-borne men in Delhi University North Campus.
The incident was reported on Wednesday at 5.05 pm when Rubina Nagra, an assistant professor at the Law Faculty, was in a cycle rickshaw and going towards Vishwa Vidyalaya Metro station with her colleague. At Chhatra Marg, two men came on a bike and tried to snatch her bag. During the incident, she fell down from the cycle rickshaw and was dragged as the miscreants rode on even while grabbing the bag.
“Their conduct in stealing my bag was pre-determined. It is a miracle I was not run over by another car on the busy road. The incident may have been captured by the CCTV installed in the vicinity,” she stated in her police compliant.
“We have recorded the victim’s statement and filed an FIR under relevant sections at Maurice Nagar police station. We will try our best to catch the culprits,” said a senior police official.
“During the incident I sustained injuries. A colleague, who was with me on the rickshaw, informed the police about the snatching. This shows lack of safety in DU vicinity where a number of women travel alone,” the victim added.
However, Delhi police claims that anti-eve-teasing teams are deployed at various points in the campuses of DU to take action against eve teasers and to prevent sexual harassment or molestation of the female students.
It added that CCTV cameras have been installed for safety and security of students as well as for surveillance on criminals in the campuses. Mobile and foot patrolling have also been intensified in the campuses of the university.
