New Delhi: BJP councillors have been asked to reach out to Delhi University (DU) students and seek support for RSS affiliated ABVP candidates in Delhi University Students’ Union (Dusu) polls. The direction was issued in a meeting of the party councillors from all three municipal corporations held on Thursday at Delhi BJP’s headquarters.

Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari, state general secretary Siddharthan and general secretary Rajesh Bhatia were present in the meeting attended by the councillors. The party also appointed senior leader Pawan Sharma as the in-charge for Dusu polls, which will be held on September 12. According to a insider, the councillors have been asked to make a list of DU students living in their respective wards and personally approach them before the polling day.

“Councillors are asked to prepare a list of students in their wards with all the particulars such as name of their college, course taken, and contact details. First the councillors will approach the students personally to explain ABVP’s nationalist agenda and seek their votes for all the four candidates,” he said. The Delhi BJP has also decided to set up a call centre for the Dusu  polls.

“A call centre dedicated for the DUSU poll will start functioning shortly. Calls will be made to students for seeking votes for ABVP panel and to brief them about the manifesto. Callers will also tell the students about the works done by ABVP office bearers in the past for the benefit of the students,” he added.

The Delhi BJP also formed several committees to oversee the DUSU poll management and coordination with ABVP. Several senior party leaders are assigned work to ensure victory of ABVP’s panel in DUSU.

The DUSU polls will witness a triangular contest among ABVP; Congress’ student wing. National Students Union of India (NSUI); and an alliance of left student wing AISA and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) student wing CYSS.
