SDMC plans interest waiver on property tax
The new amnesty scheme is likely to be announced in next two months and that will focus on the assesses of unauthorised colonies.
NEW DELHI: With an eye on upcoming Assembly polls, the BJP ruled-South Delhi Municipal Corporation is planning to waving off huge amount of penalty and interest on accumulated amount of property tax.
The new amnesty scheme is likely to be announced in next two months and that will focus on the assesses of unauthorised colonies.
According to SDMC’s standing committee chairman Dr Bhupendra Gupta and leader of house Kamaljeet Sehrawat, the SDMC has been providing relief to assesses with its amnesty schemes for the last two-three years and the scheme is generally aimed to provide relief to the assesses by waving off huge amount of penalty and interest on accumulated amount of property tax for the last many years.
Both leaders claimed that the assesses are scared of making payment of huge amount of penalty and interest. The amnesty scheme provides them relief from the huge amount apart from making their property tax account up to date.
Dr Gupta has asked the department to immediately prepare a draft of the ensuing amnesty scheme in order to provide relief to the assesses of unauthorised colonies and rural and urban villages till financial year 2016-17.
Dr Gupta pointed that poor and middle class families are putting up in unauthorised colonies and they have been constructing their house in such colonies by investing their money earned in last decades.
“They generally are not in a position to make payment of their property tax since the amount of huge penalty and interest frightens them to do so,” Dr Gupta said.
