Gang fires at cops during theft bid, manages to flee
During probe, the police found that the gang had come to rob the showroom.
New Delhi: A gang of miscreants opened fire at a PCR van in Shahdara on Friday early morning after they were caught red-handed while stealing gadgets from a computer shop.
According to the police, the alleged shootout between the police and the gang of miscreants took place on Mandoli Road in Shahdara. A call was made around 2 am to the police control room where an alert citizen informed the police about a white Innova car being parked in front of the computer shop. The caller also told the police he suspected that the gang had come to rob the shop as one person was trying to open the shutter, while another one was guarding him. In the car, two more persons were said to have been seated.
Acting on the call, a team of police visited the spot and parked the PCR van right ahead of the Innova. Seeing the police coming towards them, the gang members allegedly opened fire at the police team. In turn, the police team also fired back.
Meanwhile, constable Yogendra, with the help of a cane, broke the windshield of the car in a bid to stop them and ASI Mushtaq fired at the tyre with his service revolver in a bid to deflate it. However, the miscreants managed to flee.
An additional force was called from the local police station where an IRV, cheetah bikes, and more PCR Gypsy set out in hot pursuit of the gang. However, the gang managed to give the police a slip and vanished after Durgapur Chowk.
During probe, the police found that the gang had come to rob the showroom.
They had managed to cut two locks of the shutter.
A manhunt has been launched to nab the assailants and a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code has been registered.
