BJP launches campaign to target new voters
The Delhi BJP has set a target to enrol a minimum of 100 new voters at each of the polling stations.
New Delhi: Gearing up for the forthcoming Delhi Assembly polls, the BJP city unit has launched an ambitious campaign to reach out to the first time voters or new voters by helping them enrol in the electoral rolls.
The Delhi BJP has set a target to enrol a minimum of 100 new voters at each of the polling stations in the national capital. There are 13,816 polling booths in Delhi and the party planned to enrol a minimum of 1.5 lakh new voters.
To oversee the campaign, the Delhi BJP appointed its vice president, Abhay Verma, as the in-charge of the new voter enrolment drive.
For this extensive enrolment drive, the BJP local unit has appointed over 12,000 BLAs at different levels starting from the booths.
At the ground level, BJP has deployed over 12,000 booth level agents-2 (BLA-2) and 70 BLA-1 in each Assembly segment. The Delhi BJP also appointed a district coordinator in each of the 11 revenue districts of the city.
During the enrolment drive, Delhi BJP workers identified new voters and helped them get enrolled in the electoral rolls.
“Two categories of individuals are being approached during the campaign—those who have become 18 and all those who are not enrolled due to various reasons like relocation. BJP workers helped all these people get enrolled in the voter list to use their franchise in the upcoming polls,” said Mr Verma.
The BJP workers deployed to execute the plan on ground are doing it online through mobile apps or website. It is learnt that till now BJP has helped over 1 lakh individuals get enrolled.
“By the end of the enrolment drive, BJP workers will enrol over 2 lakh new members,” added Mr Verma.
Recently, during the month-and-half long membership drive, the Delhi BJP enrolled 18 lakh new members against a target of 10 lakh under the able monitoring of state general secretary Kuljeet Chahal and former East Delhi mayor Harsh Malhotra. In the ongoing voter enrolment drive, the party leaders are hoping to cross the target by a huge margin.
