Delhi's SEC reserves 138 wards for women

The commission has reserved seats for SC candidates on the basis of the population of the community.

New Delhi: In the wake of the upcoming municipal elections, Delhi’s state Election Commission has reportedly reserved 138 wards for women and 46 others for candidates belonging to Scheduled Castes. Of the 272 wards, the commission is said to have reserved 53 wards for women in South Delhi Corporation, 52 in North and 33 in East Corporation. As per law, at least 50 per cent seats have to be reserved for women in municipal elections.

The commission has reserved seats for SC candidates on the basis of the population of the community. Of the 16.79 per cent SC population in Delhi, about 19.38 per cent are in North Dlehi, 16.58 per cent in East Delhi and 14.15 per cent in South Delhi municipal bodies. In the Gokalpuri Assembly constituency, all four wards have been reserved for the SC community, three of the four wards have been reserved for the community in the Sultanpur Assembly segment.

The 20 wards reserved for the SC community in North Corporation are Dev Nagar, A, B and C wards of Sultanpuri, A, B, C and D Wards of  Mangolpuri, Ram Nagar, Shakarpur, Nangloi Jat, Sangam Park, Malka Ganj, Nimri Colony, Nangloi, Civil Lines, Holambi Khurd, Karol Bagh, Anand Parbat and East Patel Nagar.

In the South Municipal Corporation, the commission has reserved Madipur, Pushp Vihar, Tigri, Madangir, Dakshinpuri, Madanpur Khadar East, Badarpur, Pul Pehladpur, Harkesh Nagar, Raghubir Nagar, Sidhartha Nagar, Lado Sarai, Kotla Mubarakpur, Ghuman Hera and Punjabi Bagh.

In the East Corporation, the wards reserved for SC candidates are Trilokpuri-East, Nand Nagri, Kalyanpuri, Gokalpuri, Harsh Vihar, Trilokpuri-West, Saboli, Sunder Nagri, Joharipur, Mayur Vihar-Phase 1 and Vishwas Nagar.
