Delhi: This Krav Maga expert trains damsels in distress to fight back
The combat system is making its presence in India and attracts youths from Delhi-NCR.
New Delhi: Veena Gupta, a Gurugram-based woman, who has all the qualities of a feminist, provides training to women in self-defence in a male-dominated society. She is a certified trainer of Krav Maga, an Israeli fighting system. The combat system is making its presence in India and attracts youths from Delhi-NCR. The Indian Armed Forces have adopted Krav Maga for decades.
Ms Gupta has trained thousand of girls and working women free of charge. With training centres spread across the country, she equips women with combating techniques to fight against crime and violence.
“I believe that parents should allow their girl child to master any form of martial art, which would enable her to protect herself from violence and harassment. Almost all women, girls at some point or the other, become victims of violent crimes.
Incidents of teasing and rape have become very common. The best way out is to empower oneself with the right information and technique, ” said Ms Gupta.
“I learnt Krav Maga in 2011. Since then, I have been providing training to corporate offices and other institutes. This is a straightforward approach to self-defence. Krav Maga doesn’t require years of training to achieve self-defence proficiency. It is easy to learn, easy to remember, and easy to apply,” she added.
She recently launched an app “My Security My Responsibility (MSMR)”, which provides safety tips and a police alarm.
She also took an initiative to start “Surakshit Bharat Abhiyan” to give self-defence training to the students and working women.
The method was formulated to suit everyone especially those who might need it to save their life or survive an attack while sustaining minimal harm irrespective of the background of the attack — criminal, nationalistic, or any other.
