New Delhi: The national capital is all set to witness on Wednesday a massive rally by Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the iconic Ramlila Maidan. Congress president Rahul Gandhi’s sister Priyanka Vadra, who is also the party’s general secretary, will be holding back-to-back roadshows in Northeast Delhi and South Delhi constituencies.

Union minister and BJP leader Vijay Goel on Tuesday said that the Prime Minister’s rally will be the last nail in the coffin of the AAP and the Congress in Delhi, and that the BJP is expecting Muslim women and first-time voters to participate in it in large numbers.

Ms Priyanka Vadra will be holding two roadshows — one in support of three-time chief minister and party’s state unit president Sheila Dikshit in Northeast parliamentary constituency and another in South Delhi seeking support for party candidate and Olympian boxer Vijender Singh. “Ms Vadra will cover a total of 3.7 km in two parliamentary constituencies. In North East Lok Sabha seat, she will cover 2.2 km and in South Delhi, the Congress general secretary will cover 1.5 km,” a senior Congress leader told this newspaper. This will perhaps be Ms Vadra’s first campaigning in Delhi after she took over as the Congress general secretary of the party on January 23.

According to Mr Goel, the BJP chose Ramila Maidan for the Prime Minister’s rally considering its political significance. He said that the public meeting would be the largest-ever in the national capital.

The BJP will be placing large digital screens on the roadside. Arrangements have been made to ferry people from bordering areas. The party has ensured enough number of ambulances, drinking water and route maps. It is learnt that 5,000 buses have been engaged to bring party supporters to the rally venue.

A senior Delhi police officer said that motorists have been asked to avoid roads leading to Ramlila Maidan. Also, traffic policemen would be deployed at key intersections to ensure motorists do not suffer much during the back-to-back road shows of Ms Vadra.
