New Delhi: It seems that the Delhi BJP has not learnt any lesson from its past mistakes when the nomination of its official candidate for the municipal polls was cancelled for submitting incomplete papers.

On Saturday, the Delhi BJP managed to ensure nomination of its candidate for the Bawana by   poll. According to party insiders, BJP candidate Ved Prakash reached the SDM’s office to file his nomination albeit with an incomplete set of papers that may have disqualified him.

Sources, however, said nomination was submitted minutes before the deadline of 3 pm. On April 23, candidature of five BJP candidates was cancelled during scrutiny for filling incomplete forms..

Sources said that Mr Prakash along with Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari, MPs Dr Udit Raj and Pravesh Verma and Leader of Opposition in the Delhi Assembly Vijender Gupta among others reached the SDM’s office around 2.15 pm to file his nomination.

Downplaying the incident, a BJP leader at SDM’s office said, “While submitting the nomination papers, it was noticed some documents were missing. The BJP leadership quickly swung into action. Five minutes before the deadline, they were submitted to the SDM,” he added.

A section of the party now demand that accountability be fixed and action be taken against those found responsible.

“It is the duty of the election in-charge to check the nomination papers well before filling it at last moment. Why the party’s legal cell didn’t help Mr Prakash. What will happen if the nomination was cancelled? Party leadership should act against those responsible for such goof-ups,” said an official.
