Delhi: Woman, 70, brutally killed inside home
The police has still not been able to zero in on the reason why the elderly woman was killed in such a brutal way.
New Delhi: A 70-year-old woman was stabbed multiple times, allegedly with an ice pick, at her house in West Delhi’s Khyala on Wednesday. The police has still not been able to zero in on the reason why the elderly woman was killed in such a brutal way. However, it has so far ruled out robbery as a motive.
The police was informed on Thursday by one Shiv Bhagwan, who said that his aunt, Laxmi Devi, had been killed. When the complainant came to check on his aunt today, he found her lying in a pool of blood with head injuries. He informed the police and the spot was inspected by a crime team and forensic team. There were eight stab wounds inflicted with an ice pick on her back, breasts, and face.
“The shopkeeper opposite her house was curious as they would greet each other once in the evening. On Wednesday, he told me that he had called ‘Buaji’ (something the whole neighbourhood addressed her as) several times, but that she had not replied. I went to the house and pressed the calling bell. It remained unanswered. It came to my notice that the main door was bolted from the outside. I was alarmed too,” said Vinod, the victim’s nephew.
The woman used to stay alone at her house near Shani Shiv Mandir. The neighbouring houses belonged to her brothers and their families. She has five daughters, all of whom are married, they added. The septuagenarian was living in a poor condition and was working as a maid in a couple of houses in the area to make ends meet.
The entry to her house was friendly and it is suspected that she knew the accused. Police is questioning her relatives and neighbours to gain clue. “It is suspected that the woman was killed due to fallout resulting in personal enmity or property dispute,” said Vijay Kumar, the deputy commissioner of police (West).
