$4,80,200 seized from Jet Airways crew at IGI
The Jet Airways crew member confessed that she works on a 50 per cent commission and has been involved in this business for a long time.
NEW DELHI: A Jet Airways lady crew member was caught red-handed by the DRI officials at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport on the intervening night of Sunday and Monday trying to ‘smuggle’ in $4,80,200 (around Rs 3.21crore).
Acting on a tip-off, IGI officials intercepted the accused and upon searching her baggage cash worth $4,80,200 (Rs 3.21 crore) concealed in many foil wrappers was seized, a DRI official said on the condition of anonymity.
The Jet Airways crew member confessed that she works on a 50 per cent commission and has been involved in this business for a long time. She is being questioned at the IGIU Airport. On the basis of a tip-off, the DRI has recovered the said money from the crew member of Jet Airways New Delhi-Hong Kong flight.
“At 3:30 am on Monday, we learnt that a team of customs and DRI officials checked the crew’s handbags and baggage of the Jet Airways flight bound for Hong Kong at 2:10 am and detained a lady crew member, Deveshi Kulshreshtha and seized $4,80,402 (Rs 3.21 crore) from her baggage. She is presently under customs custody and the matter is being probed,” said the sources. Meanwhile, the police said the DRI is probing the case.
