Himmat app in autos, cabs for women's safety
The L-G directed the Delhi police to conduct an analysis of the causes of crime.
New Delhi: In a bid to bring synergy in the efforts to promote women safety, lieutenant governor (L-G) Anil Baijal on Thursday asked the Delhi government's transport department to explore the possibility of having “Himmat Plus” app of Delhi Police as a mandatory condition for issuing licences to the auto-rickshaws and taxis.
Mr Baijal also asked the Delhi police to provide the facility (the app) to report all non-heinous crimes, including snatching and pick pocketing online.
In the review meeting held here on Thursday, the Delhi police apprised Mr Baijal about its strategy to control non-heinous crimes, which include identification of crime hot spots, crackdown on criminals, focus on beat policing, high visibility, professionalism and enhancing community participation.
The L-G was also informed about the multi-pronged approach of Delhi police to effectively check non-heinous crimes that include installation of closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras in public transport buses and at public places, improvement of last mile connectivity from Metro stations, initiating various programmes for awareness and education and to take suitable action for lighting identified dark stretches in the city among others.
The L-G also asked the Delhi police to conduct an objective analysis of the causes and effects of any increase in incidences of non-heinous crimes in particular localities so that a strategy could be evolved to check them promptly.
Mr Baijal further directed the Delhi police to increase visibility of police personnel on roads and have targeted patrolling, particularly in the identified crime hotspots.
The L-G also advised facilitating online registration of all non-heinous crimes as far as possible.
This would not only facilitate speedy registration, but also make it easier for the Delhi police to examine and analyse various facets of these crimes, he added.
