Tughlaqabad gas leak: NGT notice to AAP government, Centre
The green panel appointed advocate Sanjay Upadhayay as amicus curiae in the matter.
New Delhi: The National Green Tribunal (NGT), on Monday, issued notice to the Delhi government, the ministry of environment and forests and the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC) over the chemical spill in the Tughlaqabad container depot that led to over 450 schoolchildren being hospitalised.
A bench headed by NGT chairperson Swatanter Kumar also issued a showcause notice to the Container Corporation of India on why its unit in Southeast Delhi’s Tughlaqabad should not be shifted to some other place. The green panel appointed advocate Sanjay Upadhayay as amicus curiae in the matter.
“We have gone through newspaper reports. Some emergency mechanism was required to check further environment degradation,” the bench said while directing the Central Pollution Control Board and DPCC to conduct joint inspection and submit a status report on the entire incident.
