New Delhi: An Indian Coast Guard officer has become the latest victim in the never ending spree of snatching incidents in the national capital. The alleged attempt, in which her ID card was snatched by two bike-borne men who had come targeting a gold chain that she was wearing, happened in Safdarjung Enclave.

The victim, assistant-commandment Nidhi Gupta, says she lives in Kolkata and that she had come to her grandmother’s house in Delhi to celebrate Rakhi. Incidentally, it was on the day of the festival that she became a victim of snatching. The incident happened around 1.30 pm on Monday.

In her statement to the police, Ms Gupta said that she was standing on the road outside her grandmother’s house at Humayunpur in Safdarjung Enclave when two bikers came from behind her and tried to snatch her chain.

She was also wearing her ID card around her neck and instead of the chain, they snatched the ID card and drove away. Since they were driving fast, Ms Gupta could not note down the registration number of the bike.

In a different incident that took place on Monday, an assistant professor at the Law Faculty in Delhi University was dragged on the road as she tried to counter a snatching attempt by two bike-borne men in the North Campus.
